...at least, we hope it's common sense! If you thought saving
for a CAR was bad, wait till you've paid for a few IVFs!
And if you think PAYING for failed cycles is the biggest
problem you'll face, you're probably in for a rude surprise.
The moral of the story is do your homework:
- Learn everything you can about your situation
before seeing a doctor.
- Keep learning everything you can while you are
seeing a doctor.
- Ask your doctor any and all questions that come to mind.
The doctor works for you, not the other way around.
- Are your needs being met? If you are unhappy with your
doctor, then change doctors if you can!
- When in doubt, immediately get a second opinion.
Why wait?
- When not in doubt, listen to what your doctor
says. Pretend he's your auto mechanic. (Strangely
enough, people rarely question auto mechanics.)
- Get organized! Carry with you a piece of paper on which
you jot down questions for your doctor. Fax the list to
the doctor before your next consultation. Bring it with
you to your appointments.
- Do whatever it takes to get your questions answered. You
deserve answers, if they exist.
- Share what you know with others. It'll come back to you.
